Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Do you sell to Canada/England/Australia/Europe? I wish we could, but no. At this point there are many barriers to overseas plant sales.

Do you combine orders?  Only for orders made the same day.

  • What shipping service do you use? We use USPS Priority Mail boxes. See the Shipping information page.

  • Can I change or cancel my order after I make it? You can only change or cancel your order in the 24 hours after you receive a
receipt/confirmation email from us. Please email us immediately if you have a problem in your order. Tuber stock amounts change minute to minute so tubers you may have wanted may not be available if you change your order. For example, if you ordered 1 Labyrinth dahlia but meant to order 10, there may not be 10 available. Please double check your order before you hit the final buy button.

  • Why are there limits on how many dahlias you can buy of some varieties?
Some dahlias are wildly popular and people will often buy large amounts or resell at a higher price. While it is still not ideal, a limit of 1 tuber for a few of these varieties that we offer means that more people can experience that dahlia. And with dahlias making more tubers for you over the growing season, you will have/make many more of that variety than you started with. Most of our varieties have no limits, so feel free to buy the amount you want.
  • Do you use dangerous pesticides/Round Up? No. We hate Round Up and so do dahlias. These strong chemicals can kill dahlias. Also, not healthy for people or our forest. We do use Organic Sluggo as a last resort for slugs. But largely, we use physical removal of slugs to minimize their impact.

  • What fertilizers or chemicals do you use?
We start with awesome soil with the right balance of nutrients, pH levels, drainage, and bioavailability and then add compost, and natural mulch. We adjust our NPK levels for ideal dahlia growing, blooming, and tuber development across the season. We fertilize via our watering/irrigation system using natural products such as organic fish fertilizer and worm castings “black gold" and low-nitrogen organic fertilizers.  We don’t use bone or blood based fertilizers because we think it is gross and the scent attracts bears and coyotes to areas with people. We think–but we don’t know for sure–that the fish fertilizer helps to keep the deer away. A simple way to fertilize your dahlias is an organic low-nitrogen tomato fertilizer.

  • What are your sanitation practices? We love diluted bleach. We use a LOT of diluted bleach or medical grade antiviral solutions
to sanitize tools between dividing clumps, sanitize shears/clippers between cuts, sanitize our flower buckets, sanitize our vessels and vases, and so forth. Nearly all of my farm pants and sleaves are covered in bleach stains. Any hint of disease or just slightly unhealthy looking plants get ruthlessly ripped out (and not composted). This means we often get rid of healthy tubers and plants out of an abundance of caution, but that is what must be done.

  • Do you use sulfur on your tubers? No.
We use proper drying techniques and then sprinkle tubers with cinnamon instead. Cinnamon is healthier for tubers and people. And smells delightful!

  • Are dahlias edible?
Technically, yes, however, don’t eat ours; I have not looked into what growing practices would differ for edible dahlias. Besides, you could be eating a fresh heirloom tomato instead.

  • Do you ship cut flowers/dahlias?
Dahlias don’t do well in standard shipping boxes like roses that have been prepared with chemicals, so I have yet to find a reasonable price for shipping to make this worthwhile for me, the grower and you, the buyer.
